- Your healing capabilities, which can be affected by smoking, alcohol and medications.
- Any past history for this surgery
- Any history of known allergies or infections
Basics about Breast augmentation procedure
Once anesthesia has taken effect, your plastic surgeon will make an incision behind each breast to create a "pocket" - a space within your breast tissues - for each breast implant. The implants will then be placed in the pockets and positioned for optimal appearance and symmetry. After comparing both breasts to ensure proper implant placement, your plastic surgeon will close the incisions – usually with stitches, although tape or glue may also be used.
It is usually an outpatient treatment where on an average this procedure lasts about one to two hours. General anesthesia is commonly used, but local anesthesia also is an option. You can decide this together with your doctor
There are four incision sites used for it: around the nipple (periareolar), within its fold (inframammary), under the arm (transaxillary), and in the belly button (transumbilical).
The two best options for this implant placement are Sub Glandular or the Sub Muscular. In the case of Sub Glandular the breast implant is done under your breast tissue and over your chest muscle. In the case of Sub Muscular breast implant the placement is done under or partially under your chest muscle.
How much does breast augmentation cost?
This surgery cost varies from individual to individual case depending on the choice for silicone or saline implants. It would be appropriate to discuss this with the doctor. During the consultation with doctor you will be asked about your desired size and anything else related to the appearance of your breasts that you feel is important which could have a say on the cost calculation
Recovery and normal activities post breast augmentation
At the end of your breast augmentation procedure, you may be positioned in a surgical dressing that may include a support bra or garment. Undoubtedly, you should follow your plastic surgeon's directions as prescribed.
While it will take more than a few days to return to more normal activities, it is important that you get up and move around. After augmentation, it is likely you return to work within just a few days or a week. It will depend on the type of activities you are expected to do at your work place.
Physical activity should be avoided for at least the first two weeks following surgery. After that adequate care must be taken to be very gentle with your breasts for at least the following one month.
